Skin Care Advice to Women Under 20

Growing up my Mom was always really good about teaching me how to take care of my skin.  I remember in junior high her taking me to the mall and getting me my first skin care routine.  More importantly, she showed me by example.

Then when I was 17 years old my brother got engaged.  Shortly after his engagement, his future Mother in law came over for a girls spa day at the house so we could all spend time together and really get to know each other.  We all instantly fell in love with her!  She is such an incredible woman and a very talented esthetician.  She gave us all facials and she sat me down and gave me tons of skin care advice.  Maybe it was the fact that she is a skin care professional or maybe that she isn’t my own mother, but I took her words and advice like it is the Bible.  (side note: when you are a teenager listen to your Mom.  She really does know what she is talking about!)

That day was fuel to my already love for skin care, and it has since been a strong passion of mine.  Thank you so much Diana Fountain for spending the time to teach me so much!

So what did my Mom and Diana teach me?  This is what I am going to share with you today.  I have been so blessed to have women in my life to teach me about skin care at a very young age.  And I can tell you it makes a huge difference!  I want to pass on all my knowledge and wisdom to you :)  Prevention really is the best, the easiest and the cheapest!

Hair, Skin & Nails in Cold, Dry Weather

rachel barkules

Our winer is officially here and it is definitely affecting my body.  But there are many things we can do to keep our bodies hydrated and healthy throughout the winter.  The best thing to do is stay ahead of it, prevention!

Hydrate: Our bodies work as one unit, from the inside out.  The best way to keep your skin hydrated is to drink lots of water.  I try to drink close to a gallon of water a day.  This is about 14-16 glasses (8 oz glasses) of water a day.  This will make a huge difference in your skin!!!  Your skin will be so much more dewy and glowing.  This is something that is impossible to achieve if the skin is dehydrated, no matter how great your skin care routine is.  So grab some water or a non-caffeinated tea and start drinking.

Skin Care:  Add additional steps to your skin care routine for extra hydration.  Use a hydrating mask 1-3 times a week.  At night, layer beauty oil then moisturizer or hydrating sleep mask.  Always use an eye cream before bed.

Body Lotion: Apply body lotion immediately after getting out of the shower.  The lotion will seal in moisture for some extra hydration.  If your skin is really dry, apply lotion after your shower and again before bed and in the morning when you wake up.

Hand Cream: Keep hand cream by your bed and apply every night before bed.  For additional moisture apply oil to the cuticles, then apply hand cream.  I also keep hand lotion by my kitchen sink.  I apply every time after I do dishes or any time thru out the day my hands feel dry.

Best of Beauty 2015

best of beauty 2015

1. Buxom Lipstick:  I found this lipstick this fall in the shade ‘forbidden berry’.  I am obsessed with the formula!!  It is so smooth and creamy and lasts so long!  This shade has been my favorite go to shade all fall and winter.  I love it!  It’s the perfect berry shade!  Last week I got the shade ‘guilty angle’ and I’m just as obsessed!

2. NARS Lipliner:  This liner goes on so creamy and lasts forever!  I have this liner in the red color.  I wore it out for a date and it made my red lipstick last for more than 6 hours.  No bleeding, so smudging and not drying.

3. Beauty Blender:  I am very late to the beauty blender train.  Yes, I bought my first beauty blender this year.  And I don’t know why I waited so long.  I kept thinking it was just a hype and a fad and it really wasn’t that awesome.  I finally decided to find out for myself.  And it is amazing!!!  I don’t know how I lived without it!  It blends out my concealer so well and makes it look so natural and glowing.  Must have for everyone!

4. Champagne Pop Highlighter:  Of course this is a favorite of 2015!!!  It’s probably everyone’s favorite who tried it!  It’s the best highlighter ever!  It’s the perfect shade that works on all skin tones.  The glow is heavenly!  If you haven’t gotten this yet, it is a must have for any woman who wears makeup!  And the best news ever… they just announced Champagne Pop is permanent!  Ahhhh!!  You can read my full review on Champagne Pop Here.
