Tips & Tricks #5

  1. Steaming your skin before extracting (removing blackheads) helps prepare the skin to let the blackheads go.
  2. The first place wrinkles appear is around the eye area.  If you are not using an eye cream start using one immediately.  You are never to young!
  3. Prevention is Key!  Don’t wait until you have wrinkles, age spots, sun spots, etc to start taking care of your skin.  They way you take care of your skin between the ages of 18-30 years old will show up when you are 40’s and 50’s.
  4. 3 things that age the skin most: sun exposure, smoking, alcohol
  5. Most skin conditions can be improved by diet.  Limit things like: caffeine, alcohol, sugar, chocolate, dairy.

  1. Do you have tips to help improve skins texture? 32 and thinking of getting microdermebrasion. What else can I do ?? HELP !!!

      1. I get confused with this. Why do you need to exfoliate if you use a clarisonic? Doesn’t the clsrisonic do that? Never sure how much I should exfoliate. And I have dry skin. Thanks!

        1. A clarisonic does not exfoliate the way an exfoliator does. A clarisonic is best used as a way to deep clean. For optimum skin, an exfoliator needs to be used even if you use a clarisonic.

      2. I know there are a ton of different clarasonics, any type in particular that I should get ? I would like jto get one this weekend.

        Thanks again

    1. You can purchase a face steamer. But I learned a trick 10 years ago when I didn’t have any money to buy anything. I boil some water, pour it into a bowl. Then hang my head over it while draping a towel over my head. You create your own tiny steam room- for free :)

  2. I have always wondered, do you practice any different skin care when you know bad weather is coming the next day? I suffer from dry skin as it is and wonder if there’s not something more I can do when a dry cold day is coming??

    1. I have extreme dry skin in the winter. At night I use 2 beauty oils and a toner on top of them for my face. Then I load up my arms and legs with a home-made body butter and point my humidifier at me while I sleep. I know it sounds extreme, but I need it! And, drink lots of water and limit the alcohol- that helps too!

    1. You are young and don’t have any skin issues to deal with. So don’t spend the money of anything that is a treatment. Get something basic like Philosophy Hope in a Tube Eyes or Lush Enchanted Eye Cream.

  3. What would you recommend as a good exfoliant to use for someone with normal to dry skin? I have texture issues, too and I currently use a Clarisonic.

    1. I have been using Lush Ocean Sea Salt scrub for the last several months and have been loving it! It is moisturizing and exfoliates down deep at the same time. It leaves my skin feeling more smooth and vibrant.

    1. I get eczema on my eyelids sometimes. The only thing I’ve found to help is Clinique all about eyes or burts bees sensitive eye cream. Just make sure you use something that is for moisture and no reducing wrinkles bc those usually have ingredients that irritate eczema.

  4. My fiance thinks women should be the only ones to use eye creams? He just turned 23 and have wrinkles in his eye area? What do you recommend?

  5. Is using baking soda good for exfoliating? I’ve heard its fine and I’ve heard its bad for the skin. I’ve also heard the same about st. Ives apricot scrub. Can you clarify for me?

    1. In my opinion, I would never use baking soda or st ives scrub on my face. There are other natural things you can use. Simply using organic sugar and water as a scrub will give you great results!

  6. Hello!!!! I’m new to your blog and I am loving it!! I’m 27 and I think it’s time for me to use oils or creams to keep my face looking young, what do you recommend for my oily skin?

  7. Loved all of this until the end. =) Limiting my 4 fav things for great skin, I think I’ll put it off until I turn 30

  8. Why won’t you ever use the st.Ives? Just wondering, thats been the only scrub that I’ve found that does the job? I would really like to know. Thank you :)

  9. How do you later oils and serums? My skin is so so dry just oil or serum by itself is never enough. Thanks!

    1. I am working on a post about how to take care of dry skin. It should be up in the next week :)
