Tips & Tricks #13

  1. If you have not started Elf on a Shelf– don’t!  It will ruin your life!  On the other hand, you can manipulate your kids into being good because the Elf will tell Santa.  So it’s really a toss up :)
  2. To reduce swelling in your eye area, including brow bone, under eye area, between the eyes use a therapeutic cold eye mask.  Keep it in the freezer in a ziplock bag, then apply it to the eye area for 10-15 minutes.
  3. To make your wine taste so much better use an aerator or decanter.  This will increase the flavor of your wine significantly.
  4. Some nights I can’t stand washing wine glasses, so I use stemless wine glasses.  I put them in the dishwasher, so much easier!
  5. If you are throwing a party, your guests care more about having fun than anything else. Not about the decorations, your house being clean, what you are wearing, or whether the food is hot or even tastes that good.  So do your best, take a deep breath, have a drink and have fun!

  1. Why no elf on the shelf?? I was gonna buy this weekend?? It’s so cute and thought about the “behavior” thing. Everyone tells me that the kids enjoy so much!!! Just curious about why you think not??

    1. The kids definitely love it! I say not to do it for the parents sake. It’s just one more thing to do during an already busy time of year. You have to remember to move the Elf every night. I can’t count how many nights I’ve been in bed falling asleep and jerked myself awake saying “I didn’t move the Elf!”. If you forget your kids think he didn’t go see Santa the night before and are very disappointed. And once you start it, you have to do it EVERY year! There are few times this Elf has given me an advantage for behavior. Most of the time it’s a pain in my A!

  2. i have managed to make it another year without Elf on the Shelf (pat self on back!), hahah!!! I have never really been a fan of Elf (they look totally creepy, no?!), I like the idea of it, but it seems to big of a hassle as I dont seem to sit down until 9 pm anyways. What we do is Santa mails a letter to the kids and we keep that letter in the time-out spot so the letter is visible. Thanks for all your other tips Rachel, I really enjoy your blog. Have a happy holiday season!

  3. I agree with the no Elf on the Shelf!! Being a parent is work enough – why add to it with an Elf?

    Love the blog!
