After the holidays I think we can all agree that we ate too much, drank too much and stayed up too late.  It has been several weeks of indulging in food, wine and champagne.  Doing a juice cleanse or several days of intense sweating work outs will flush the toxins out of your body.  But the skin doesn’t bounce back as quickly.  It will need some additional TLC and I have all the tips right here for you.

1. Mask: A mask is the perfect way to rejuvenate the skin.  It’s like therapy for the skin.  Whether your skin is looking dull, dry, uneven or oily; a mask can help.  There are 3 masks that I love for this and they are all a little different.

2. Eyes: The eye area is a difficult place to hide any tiredness or exhaustion.  Dark circles, redness and puffiness are all results of being tired.  Late night eating and drinking also causes redness and puffiness around the eye area and between the brows.  Before bed and/or in the morning apply a cold eye mask (I keep mine in the freezer in a ziplock bag so it’s always ready).  If you don’t have one, put 2 spoons in the fridge or freezer for 30 minutes and place them where needed.  After applying some cold to help reduce swelling, apply an eye treatment.

  • Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Hydra-Pure Firming Eye Cream promotes collagen growth, fights free radicals and protects the skin from harmful elements.  It’s anti-aging properties provide a youthful, firmer, tighter appearance.  This eye cream restores, replenishes, firms, hydrates; diminishes lines, wrinkles, puffiness and damage.  Apply morning and/or night.  Also available at Sephora.
  • First Aid Beauty Detox Eye Roller is a metal roller ball that reduces under eye puffiness and dark circles.  This revitalizes, smoothes and brightens the under eye area.  Within minutes of using the under eye area will be improved.
  • Boscia Super Cool De-Puffing Eye Balm is a cooling and soothing balm that instantly de-puffs and revives tired eyes.  This glides on, giving light hydration and helps diminish puffiness, dark circles and fine lines.  Apply under or over makeup.

3. Oil & Serum: Using an oil or serum is a great way to let the product do all the work for you during the day or at night while you are sleeping.

  • Perricone MD Vitamin C Ester Serum is a lightweight, non-oily multitasking serum that brings to life dull-looking skin.  Instantly boosts skins radiance and gives an even, luminous glow.  It smoothes fine lines and crows feet, brightens dark spots, firms and encourages collagen production for youthful looking skin.  Apply in the morning to clean skin.  Also available at Sephora.
  • CAUDALÍE Polyphenol C15 Overnight Detox Oil is a lightweight, dry oil that detoxifies, eliminates free-radical cells and dead cells, and supports natural cell renewal at night when your skin is most efficient at healing.  It helps replenish and renew your skin for total revitalization all while you sleep.  Leaving your skin smooth, hydrated and youthful-looking.  Apply at night to clean skin alone, or under a moisturizer; avoiding eye area. Also available at Sephora.

4. Exfoliate: Exfoliating is so important to keeping the skin’s texture smooth and radiant.  For my normal exfoliant I like to use Fresh Sugar Face Polish.  I exfoliate with this 3-4 times a week and it keeps my skin soft, smooth and hydrated.  But when talking about detoxifying the skin I reach for something stronger.

  • Dr Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant is an at-home alternative to an in-office procedure.  This polishes away dead skin cells, fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots, acne marks and skin discoloration.  Leaves the skin radiant, healthy looking, smooth texture and a youthful glow.

5. Water, water , water!!!!!!!  Drink as much water as you possibly can and limit any caffeine and alcohol.  Water will flush out toxins and hydrate the skin from the inside out.  I know we have all heard it, that’s because it’s true.  Another way to get moisture back into the skin is to use a facial steamer.  After cleansing your skin, steam for 10-15 minutes.  After that you can do a mask or apply your moisturizer.  You can steam your skin every day if you want.  If you are going to exfoliate, do it after cleansing and before steaming.

6. Sleep.  Getting adequate rest is so important, most people need at least 8 hours.  When you are sleeping the body and skin are able to repair and rejuvenate.  DVR your favorite show, save it for the weekend and go to bed early.

7. Fill up on fruits and veggies, especially ones with high fiber and low glycemic.  This will help to balance out your body, remove toxins and deliver much needed nutrients.  This will help to give your skin a glow and more even complexion from the inside out.  Fruit to eat are: all berries, pears, apples, oranges, peaches, plums, prunes / Veggies to eat: artichoke, green beans, broccoli, carrots (raw), celery, tomatoes, spinach, cucumber.

Let’s make 2015 your skins best year.  Take care of your skin and treat it right, you won’t regret it!  Most of the products I talked about are available at both Nordstrom and Sephora.  Nordstrom offers free shipping on all orders, Sephora has free shipping on a minimum order of $50 (so easy to do!).  Both stores return any products that you do not like via shipping back or in store.
