Weight is Just a Number

black off the shoulder top

Over the past 10 years I have weighed as little as 125 pounds and as much as 160 pounds.  This does not include pregnancy and losing pregnancy weight.  One thing I have learned from being many different sizes, weight is just a number!  How much I weigh and how big or small I am does not define who I am.  My weight is not what makes me happy or what makes me feel good about myself.

I remember in my early 20’s when I gained weight for the first time in a way that I didn’t like it.  I was complaining to my friends that I had gained 10 pounds.  One of my friends looked at me and said “if you gain 10 pounds or lose 10 pounds, it doesn’t change who you are”.  Those words grabbed onto my heart and stuck with me forever.

Women come in all shapes and sizes and we need to embrace our bodies!!  When I scroll down Instagram I am very aware that I do not have a typical “blogger” body.  I do not have long thin legs with a huge thigh gap.  I am most definitely not a size 0.  But I don’t care.  I love my body.  I love that I have curvy hips and a big butt and thicker thighs.  And there have been times over the years that I was thinner and a smaller size.  And I loved my body then too.

The point I’m trying to make, is love your body no matter what!  And don’t let your size determine your happiness.

6 months ago I moved across the country and started working full time.  With this big life change my work outs disappeared.  They left the building!  Because of that I have gained 10 pounds in the last 6 months, weighing me in currently at 150 pounds.  I haven’t been that thrilled about it.  Especially since I had to buy all new jeans.  But I reminded myself of what’s really important and I am embracing my extra weight because it’s me.  So much in my life has changed and my work outs have taken a lower priority.  And that’s ok, it’s the stage that I am in right now.

The crazy thing is, right now I am the happiest I have ever been in my whole life.  And I’m not just saying that to be cheesy.  My marriage has never been better.  My kids are amazing, healthy and bring me so much joy every single day.  I love living in Florida and being able to go to the pool and beach in February!  I love living right next to my family.  I love my job.  So who cares if I’ve gained some weight.  It’s just weight!  It’s not the thing that actually matters in life.

If you take anything away from this blog post, is love your body no matter what!  And be nice to yourself!  If you think losing weight and being super thin will make you happy, it won’t.  Some of my worst times is when I was really thin.  Focus on who you are.  Love yourself and know that you are beautiful, always!

9 Beach Must Haves

beach must haves

Beach Bag : I love having a great beach bag that is lots of fun!  After all, I am headed to the beach!  I just purchased this one (shown in the picture above).  I also love this colorful one and this more classic style and this one is too fun!

Swimsuit : I have been really into one piece swimsuits this year.  I love how they give me the coverage I am looking for but are still sexy.  I’ve found that I prefer wearing a one piece because I can move around with my kids easier.  This one is very flattering if you have a curvier bottom or shorter legs.  It’s cut up higher on the side, making the legs look longer and curvy in a good way!  Also love (and have) this one.  For bikini’s I rarely ever buy a matching set.  I like to buy bottoms that work for me and fun colorful tops.  Bikini bottoms that work best for my curvy butt are from La Blanca.  They are very comfortable and have great coverage for the booty.  I also love high waisted bottoms, very flattering on curvier bottoms!  For tops I love something fun like this colorful one,  love the pink on this one, love the wrap detail on this one.

Cover-Up : Cover ups are my life!  I typically have my cover up on most of the day, to keep my skin protected and to cover up my butt.  What’s up with swimsuits now that don’t cover the butt all the way?  I love lightweight flowy ones like this one.  This one is super fun, I’ve had this one for 2 years and it’s still a favorite, it now comes in this style.

Sunglasses : I have to wear sunglasses any time I am outside.  At the beach I like to wear either an aviator style or an oversized pair.  Either way, I like them to be polarized if I can for extra protection from the sun.

Hat : I wear a hat for 2 reasons.  To block my face from the sun and to cover up my sweaty messy hair.  I just ordered this one, it’s under $40 and it comes in 2 colors.  This one is super cute and this one is fun.

Sandals : Something flat and comfy is all I’m looking for, ok and it also has to be cute too :) I love this pair with the bling and this metallic one.

Sunscreen : Obviously we have to think about our skin!  Nothing ruins a day at the beach more than burnt skin for the next couple days.  Not to mention the damage it does to the skin.  I love this one for my face.  It’s completely weightless and dries matte.  I have put makeup over it before and I don’t even notice it’s there.  And I love this one for my body.  I prefer a spray sunscreen at the beach.  It makes it so much easier to reapply when your whole body is covered in sand.

Water Bottle : Drinking water at the beach is essential.  The sun and heat is very dehydrating.  This one is great because it keeps your drink cold for 24 hours.

Towel : When I go to the beach I keep it simple.  I bring everything I need in 1 bag, I lay my towel in the sand and enjoy the day.  I love this pineapple towel, this colorful one and this beach blanket.

I have always loved the combination of leather and lace.  It’s so feminine and girly with a rocker edge.  Throw in some rockstuds and some bling, that is my perfect outfit!

I noticed this top is starting to sell out.  So I found a few other options that I love that will give you the same look.  I love the lace hem detail on this one, just ordered this off the shoulder,  obsessed with this top!, this one looks beautiful and this one is just fun.

The Nordstrom sale continues, and this studded bomber jacket I have been wearing non-stop for over a month is 40% off and available in all sizes!  You can see it in this post.  This brand can run a little small in their jackets, I’m wearing a medium.

Yellow Off the Shoulder Top

I’ve never worn yellow before.  I always thought it would look bad against my pale skin.  I always thought I needed a golden tan to wear yellow.  But I took a chance and ordered this yellow top.  I thought it looked so pretty!  And to my surprise, I really liked wearing yellow!  It definitely taught me to try new things outside my box.  And some times that just wearing a color I’m not used to wearing.

Nordstrom is having their big Winter Sale right now.  Tons of great pieces on sale, up to 40% off!
