Cool Toned Blonde

Rachel barkules hair

Having cool blonde hair, yellow is the enemy!  All the blondes out there know exactly what I mean.  It’s important to stay proactive in keeping the yellow out.  Once the yellow creeps in, it can be difficult to get rid of it without a trip to the salon.

I typically go about 10 weeks in between my salon visits.  So how do I keep my blonde looking cool and fresh, without any yellow or brassiness?  The only answer is purple shampoo.  I use a purple shampoo every time I wash my hair.

The extra secret, which is really important!: every 2 weeks I will leave the purple shampoo in my hair for 5-10 minutes instead of rinsing it out right away. Leaving it in that extra time makes sure to get out any yellow that is trying to creep in.  Don’t do this too often because it can be drying.  Letting my hair soak in the purple shampoo keeps it looking fresh, bright and the perfect tone of cool blonde.  I do this every 2 weeks or before an important event or date night… like Valentine’s Day tomorrow :). Gotta have my hair looking fresh!

  1. Love this post! Been a purple shampoo fan for a while for my light caramel ombre hair, but the conditioner looks like a great idea since we leave conditioner in for a few minutes anyway!

  2. How often do you wash your hair? Is your hair fine in texture or thick? I often struggle with wanting to wash my hair every day otherwise I feel like it’s greasy and flat!
